Don’t Wait Too Long to Get an Ottawa Tune-Up

Hopefully you get a regular Ottawa auto tune-up and you will never experience the pain of turning your ignition key only to experience… nothing.  Absolutely nothing. Chances are if you have been driving for more than a week you have experienced this at some point in your life.  And it is no fun.  You most certainly should have an Ottawa garage like G&I Automotive take a look and perhaps all you need is an Ottawa tune-up.

But in the meantime there are a few things you can check to avoid the further pain of having to get your car towed to the Ottawa garage.

Start with the battery – if you turn the key and literally NOTHING happens – no radio, no lights, no nothing… get a jump.  But don’t assume that means all is well – sometimes a dead battery is a sign of carelessness (you left your lights on), sometimes it is just time to replace the battery.  While we are taking a look at the battery during the jump, make sure the battery connections are not dirty or corroded – and if they are, clean them.

If you try and jump your car and you get nowhere – and the starter is still silent – you may have a faulty ignition switch. To test this, turn your ignition halfway (not all the way on) and if the lights don’t light up… AND you have tried jumping your car… it is likely that your ignition switch is bad and you will need a tow to your favorite Ottawa garage.

If you feel able and up to it, you can also check to see if there is corrosion causing a bad starter connection. Corrosion can affect any electrical component in your Ottawa auto, especially the ones exposed to the elements like the starter.

As a last resort you can check your fuses for a blown one… but admittedly few cars’ starting systems are associated with a fuse.

You should prevent all of this and simply check your car manual to see the recommended intervals to get an Ottawa tune-up… and give us a call, we are here to help.
